Founder
Portland, OR
Melissa Dodson is a wife and mom, a student, a writer and a Death Midwife. She writes about being a motherless daughter, grief, depression, anxiety, vulnerability and all of the uncomfortable messyness of life. She has been published on The Manifest-Station, Rebelle Society, The Tattooed Buddha, and various other places on the interwebs. She has studied writing with Tom Spanbauer's Dangerous Writers and is currently working on her first memoir. She is also studying Cultural Anthropology at Lewis and Clark College.

Since the death of her mother in 2014, she has become a grief warrior. She founded the Grief Rites Foundation, and devotes her broken heart to the education, awareness and advocacy of normalizing grief. She also curates the Grief Rites Readers Series at American Legion Post 134 on NE Alberta in the heart of the Portland arts district. The Readers Series is a monthly storytelling showcase that provides the opportunity for community to gather and speak openly about death, loss and grief.
